Retiree Death
A family member should contact the Retirement System as soon as possible after the death of a retiree and provide the Retirement System with a copy of the death certificate. Timely notification of a retiree’s death avoids overpayments which the Retirement System must recover. It also allows for the timely processing of survivor benefits, if any.
A full monthly benefit is due for the month in which a retiree’s death occurs and will be paid on the last banking day of the month. This will be the final payment unless a Survivor Benefit was elected.
