• August A. Busch Wildlife Area. Numerous ponds for biking, hiking, and dog retrieval exercises.

• Augusta. Mt. Pleasant and Augusta Wineries offer imbibing opportunities. The drive along Rt. 94 going west is fun, especially in a sports car. KATY trail access here.

• Columbia Bottoms. A large conservation area, with fishing and hiking at the southwest quadrant of the Mississippi-Missouri River Confluence. Also part of the Confluence Greenway park system, and once considered as a site for a second St. Louis airport.

• Howell Island Wildlife Area (via Chesterfield Airport Road). This is tough to get to, especially in high water, but the deer may be worth it.

• KATY Trail. Missouri River views, from Machens to Augusta and beyond. Missourians are blessed by the vision of EdwardJones, the Legislature, Department of Natural Resources and all the volunteers who have used the "rails to trails" law in just the way it was intended.

• Portage des Sioux. "Blessing of the Fleet," Alton Lake, marinas, bike ride from West Alton. This is flat country that floods. Along with Carlyle lake, one of the few sailing opportunities near St.Louis.

• St. Charles Main Street. First Capitol, Microbreweries, KATY Trail trailhead, and Station Casino. A traditional antique destination, after you’ve investigated Cherokee Street and the Central West End.

• West Alton. Riverlands Conservation Area, bicycling area, Clark Bridge. The Clark Bridge is an impressive piece of architecture, and for those who have seen the movie describing its construction, a construction feat.
