Mayor Slay Presents Spirit of St. Louis Award to The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis

Mayor Slay Presents Plaque to William PooleST. LOUIS — Mayor Francis G. Slay presented the Mayor’s Spirit of St. Louis Award today to The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis in appreciation of the bank’s renewed commitment to downtown St. Louis. The Federal Reserve Bank has begun “Project Renov8,” an $80 million renovation and expansion plan to enhance its downtown presence.

The bank will build a new pedestrian plaza, security screening vestibule, four additional floors of office space totaling 54,000 square feet, and a new security court and loading dock. The bank has also purchased and is renovating the nearby Marquette Building parking garage and another building west of downtown for an additional screening facility. The project is in response to the bank’s need for additional workspace and to enhance security. Targeted completion date is 2007.

“The Spirit of St. Louis Award is reserved for members of the St. Louis business community who have the vision to recognize the enormous potential of this city and the dedication required to make that vision a reality,” Mayor Slay said. “I thank the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis for their commitment to the City, and for the role they have played in spurring the revitalization of this entire corner of downtown.”

“We’re pleased to be able to stay downtown and play a part in its revitalization,” said William Poole, St. Louis Fed president. “The additional security the project provides will let us continue giving our financial institution customers and the U.S. Treasury the up-to-date, reliable financial services they expect.”

The Mayor’s Spirit of St. Louis Award recognizes businesses that make major expansions or improvements to their existing City locations, businesses that open or relocate to the City, and certain major City projects. The St. Louis Development Corporation, City Streets Dept., City Treasurer’s Office, and utility companies serving the downtown area worked together to assist the project.
