Lee J. Receives Mayor’s Spirit of St. Louis Award
ST. LOUIS – Mayor Francis G. Slay presented the Mayor’s Spirit of St. Louis Award today to Lee Johnson, owner of Lee J., a fashion retail store located at 1000 Washington Avenue in the Merchandise Mart in Downtown St. Louis.
The Mayor’s Spirit of St. Louis Award recognizes businesses that make major expansions or improvements to their existing City locations, businesses that open or relocate to the City, and certain major City projects.
“The Spirit of St. Louis award is reserved for members of the St. Louis business community who have the vision to recognize the enormous potential of our city and the dedication required to make that vision a reality,” Mayor Slay said. “On behalf of the people of the City of St.Louis, I congratulate Lee Johnson on receiving the Spirit of St. Louis Award.”
Lee J was established by Johnson in 1999. The 2,600-square-foot retail store features hip men’s and women’s clothing. Originally located in the Central West End, Johnson decided to relocate his business to Downtown St. Louis.
