Thiel Tool Co. Receives Mayor's Spirit of St. Louis Award
ST. LOUIS -- Mayor Francis G. Slay presented the Mayor's Spirit of St. Louis Award today to Thiel Tool & Engineering Co., the St. Louis-based automotive parts supplier.
The award recognizes businesses that make major expansions or improvements, innovative new businesses that open in the City of St. Louis, and certain major City projects.
Thiel was selected for building a new $3.5 million, 27,000-square-foot addition which houses a 20-ton overhead crane and an 800-ton, fully-automated, high-energy mechanical press. Coupled with ultra-accurate pres-feeding equipment, this line safely handles 30,000 pound coils of steel.
"The Spirit of St. Louis Award is reserved for members of the St. Louis business community who have the vision to recognize the enormous potential of this city and the dedication required to make that vision a reality," Mayor Slay said. "It is my honor to present the Mayor's Spirit of St. Louis Award to a business that has distinguished itself with quality workmanship, technical innovation and first-rate customer service. On behalf of the people of the City of St. Louis, I congratulate John Thiel, Frank Thiel and all of the men and women of Thiel Tool. Thank you for believing in this city and committing to this city."
"Since 1945, Thiel Tool & Engineering has led St. Louis' precision metal stamping industry through integrity, ingenuity and customer service. This $3.5 million investment will secure Thiel's and St. Louis' role as a leader in the automotive supplier market," said John Thiel, president.
The project was assisted by the St. Louis Local Development Company (LDC), one of the City's development boards that provides low-interest loans to small businesses seeking to locate or expand in the City.
After presenting the award, Mayor Slay operated the new metal stamping press.
