Electrician/Electrician (Trainee)

ELECTRICIAN: Eligibles who meet the minimum experience and training requirements will start at $19.43 per hour. Journeymen who have completed a recognized apprenticeship program registered by the Department of Labor or the equivalent will start at $19.73 per hour. The maximum hourly salary will be $26.90. ELECTRICIAN(TRAINEE): Hourly pay rate is $16.95.

Nature of Work
This is skilled electrical work installing, maintaining and repairing building electrical systems, traffic signals, street lighting, substations, etc. (low, medium, and high voltage). Electricians also work with motors and motor control circuits. Electrician (Trainee) vacancies will be filled from this eligible list also. Electrician (Trainee) assist journeyman electricians in the performance of their duties. Candidates will be referred from the eligible list for employment based on the skills required for the specific job. Some positions will require shift work and a valid Commercial Driver’s License. Please note kind of license, number, class, and expiration date on the employment application and if they are willing to accept shift work.

Minimum Qualifications
ELECTRICIAN: A minimum of two years of recent full-time paid experience in the diagnosis, repair, installation, replacement, maintenance and troubleshooting of a wide variety of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in commercial, industrial, residential, or outside electrical construction as an electrician, AND two successfully completed courses in basic electricity from a recognized apprenticeship program, a technical or military school, college or university; OR, completion of a recognized apprenticeship program of four years in the electrician trade; OR, licensure by the City of St. Louis as an electrician; OR, three years of recent full-time experience as a Trades Helper (electrical - assisting journeymen electricians) in City Service, AND successful completion of two courses in basic electricity from one of the recognized programs above. Vocational training programs must be beyond the high school level.

ELECTRICIAN (TRAINEE): An Associate’s degree program in Industrial Electricity from a recognized trade school, technical or military school, college or university; OR two years of recent full-time paid experience as a Trades Helper (electrical - assisting journeymen electricians) in City Service AND graduation from a two-year certificate program in electricity from a recognized technical or trade school. Vocational training must be beyond the high school level.

Considerable knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods and practices of the electrical trade, including knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions; good knowledge of National Electrical Code. Working skill in interpreting and working from sketches, penciled layouts and blueprints.

License: Applicants must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Applicant must be able to present license at the time of the oral interview.

Official proof of educational achievement or training must be submitted with the application. Acceptable proof of completion of the educational requirement would be an official transcript from a recognized apprenticeship program, technical or military school, college or university indicating successful completion of the basic electricity courses, OR a certificate indicating complete title of program completed and a detailed description of the subject matter covered in the curriculum or program. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with high voltage equipment, motor controls, power distribution transformers, and variable frequency controllers.
