Fleet Maintenance Technician I

Normal entry salary is $29,094.

Nature of Work
This is work assisting journeyman mechanics in the maintenance, repair and overhauls of automobiles, heavy trucks, construction equipment, small engines, tractors (lawn), and other vehicles. Duties may also include the ability to complete work orders properly and other records pertaining to vehicle maintenance; the ability to use hand tools, impact wrenches, drills, jacks, pullers and other tools necessary to perform repairs. Heavy lifting is required.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years of recent full-time paid experience in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, tractors (lawn), heavy trucks and/or construction equipment.

OR Successful completion of a recognized trade school or junior college program in automotive technology.

Proof of qualifying educational achievement must be submitted with the employment application.

Must be able to operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles. Must furnish own set of mechanic’s tools.

License: Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of filing employment application. Please note kind of license, number, class and expiration date on the employment application.

Commercial Driver’s License: Must obtain a Missouri Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) by the completion of the working test period (usually six months from date of hire) and maintain license while employed by the City of St. Louis.
