HVAC Mechanic

$36,478.00 $57,902.00
Normal entry salary is $36,478. Candidates who possess the advanced qualifications established by the Department of Personnel may be appointed at the recruitment rate of $42,458.

Nature of Work
This is a position responsible for the maintenance and repair of the heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and other mechanical equipment generally found in commercial and institutional type buildings. Incumbent will install and maintain electrical controls; tests equipment for proper operation; adjusts pumps; lubricates machinery; assemble and connect refrigerant lines; and adjust refrigerant levels in refrigerant compression system.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Associate’s degree or completion of a two year training program in Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating Technology from a recognized trade school or junior college.

Experience: Three years of full-time paid experience in the diagnosis, installation, maintenance and repair of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating systems on a service truck doing commercial and institutional HVAC service and installation work.

OR, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Certification: Qualified candidates must be certified in EPA Standards at the “Universal” level (Type I, II, and III) for refrigeration handling.

License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must be able to present license at time of the Oral Interview.
