Tow Truck Operator

Normal entry salary is $30,628.

Nature of Work
This is skilled work in the towing and impoundment of vehicles in violation of traffic or other laws. Incumbent will respond to police calls, accidents, arrests, stolen vehicles, and illegally parked cars. Position requires use of winch and dolly wheels, knowledge of city streets, and ability to work in all weather conditions. Employees also may be deputized to ticket vehicles illegally obstructing traffic flow.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience: One year of recent full-time paid experience in the operation of a tow truck. Qualifying experience must have been in the last five years.

License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B) while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must be able to present license at time of the Performance Test.

Driving Record: Applicants must have demonstrated by their previous driving record the ability to operate a motor vehicle in a lawful, safe and careful manner.

Applicants taking the Performance Test will be required to hook up and tow a vehicle.

Applicants passing the Performance Test will be notified to submit a “Police Record Check”.
