Youth Development Task Force Disconnected Youth Project (ppt)
One of the greatest sources of untapped potential human capital is the 47,500 youth in the City of St. Louis. Mayor Francis Slay created the Youth Development Task Force (YDTF) within the Mayor's Commission on Children, Youth and Families to bring together youth and other key stakeholders. The group works to find ways to better engage youth in the City's renewal and to develop systems that better address the needs of disconnected youth. The task force identified preventing high school drop-outs and increasing the graduation rate as the most pressing problem needing to be addressed.

St. Louis was one of 6 cities selected to participate in a year-long technical assistance initiative from the National League of Cities (NLC). This initiative will assist St. Louis in developing a plan to create a community where every youth is a high school graduate. All sectors of the community must be involved in the design and implementation of the collaborative to ensure success. The summit on high school drop outs is a key component in a comprehensive strategic planning effort to re-engage disconnected youth through collaboration of local and state agencies and community-based organizations.
