Peter George Sr. of Blue Shutters Development has purchased the Ford Building from Montgomery Bank for $3.1M. Plans are to convert the 14 story building into 39 two-bedroom apartments. Blue Shutters Development has been involved in historic rehabs in Hyde Park and Fox Park.

The Ford Building was built in 1950 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building housed more than 100 apartments before it shuttered in 2007 to make way for Matt Burghoff’s $10 million condo project. The development fell through, however, when Burghoff, former principal of Mambo Development, pleaded guilty to federal charges.

The building’s namesake, James L. Ford Jr., championed clean air legislation in St. Louis in the first half of the 20th century.
