The three-level building houses the new Schlafly branch of the St. Louis Public Library system, 5,000 square feet of retail space and a 430 space parking garage. The 22,000 square-foot Schlafly library replaced the old Lashly branch with three times the seating and parking space, expanded hours, a new auditorium, and a bigger collection. A number of computers are available for public use and the library has three new "self-checkout" machines. The branch has been upgraded from a neighborhood branch to a regional one, giving the library the ability to serve more people. The expansion is part of the library system's ten-year overhaul of all its 14 branches. Redevelopment of this site of the former Argyle Apartments was made possible by a joint venture between the Treasurer's Office and the St. Louis Public Library.
