In April, 2004, the Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club, built in 1965, celebrated its grand opening of the new 28,000 square foot, Dennis and Judy Jones Performing Arts and Teen Center. Funded by a $5 million capital campaign and a generous $1 million gift by Dennis and Judy Jones, this new space adds a multipurpose community room, lunchroom, fitness center, teen center, expanded Webster University music school, performing arts and dance studio, and enhancements such as a new elevator for the physically challenged.
The Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club offers recreational, educational, and cultural activities, along with guidance and counseling programs to members 6 through 17 years old. Currently the Club serves around 2,100 children with 50% living in single parent homes. This expansion meets the needs of approximately 1,000 more children annually. Membership in the program offers the opportunity for homework assistance, musical instruction, science lab, arts and crafts, and sports through after school programs.
