SEX CRIMES AND CHILD ABUSE UNIT
Unit Leader Christine Krug
- Four Assistant Circuit Attorneys and four investigators handle felony cases involving physical and sexual abuse of child and the sexual abuse of adults.
- Specialized unit requiring extensive training and education in the area of physical and sexual abuse.
- Unit aggressively pursues those who physically and sexually abuse children and adults.
- Attorneys carry a beeper for week long periods to be available for warrant applications and assistance to the specialized unit with the Metropolitan Police Department that handles the physical and sexual abuse of individuals.
The types of cases the Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit handles:
- Sexual assaults against adults.
- Sexual assaults against children.
- Physical abuse against children, including child abuse homicides.
- Child neglect and abandonment.
- Computer Exploitation and internet crimes against children.
- Parental kidnapping and child abduction.
- Knowingly exposing others to HIV without their knowledge and consent.
- Registration of sex offenders.

Registration of certain Offenders, Including Registration of Convicted Sex Offenders
Sections 589.400 to Section 589.425, RSMo,
(http://www.moga.state.mo.us/statutes/chapters/chap589.htm) require that certain offenders, including sex offenders, must register with their local law enforcement officials. In St. Louis, such offenders are required to register with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
