The Misdemeanor Unit has five attorneys and related support personnel who handle up to 10,000 misdemeanor offenses per year. The Misdemeanor Unit also covers the initial phase of all felony cases: Grand Jury, Preliminary Hearings and Arraignment.

A misdemeanor is a state-level offense that is punishable by a fine and no more than one year in a jail, but not in prison.
