Chief Misdemeanor Attorney
- Six attorneys, two investigators and several clerks handle 10,000 misdemeanors annually.
- Misdemeanor Staff also handles the initial phases of all felony cases:
- Grand Jury, Preliminary Hearings and Arraignments.
- Misdemeanor Trials:
- Any defendant may request a trial by jury or by judge.
- Verdicts by 12 jurors must be unanimous.
- Maximum sentence for a misdemeanor is one year in jail and/or a fine.
- 100 Misdemeanor guilty pleas per week (approx.).
- 20% Driving with Revoked/Suspended License.
- 10% Domestic Violence.
- 5% DWI.
- Other pleas: drug possession, assault, trespass, stealing, and more.
- Some receive jail time, vast majority receive probation with conditions.
