  • Specialized Unit with the sole mission of successfully prosecuting of all levels of homicide cases.
  • Attorneys and investigators with extensive experience in the investigation and prosecution of homicide cases.
  • Detail oriented work requiring cooperation with Metropolitan Police Department's specialized homicide unit.
  • Attorneys in the Unit carry a 24-hour beeper to insure immediate and effective response to calls regarding homicide arrests.
The Homicide Unit consists of attorneys and investigators whose sole mission is to prosecute, successfully, those individuals who have committed a murder or vehicular homicide.

The Assistant Circuit Attorneys assigned to the Unit provide legal consultation and advice to the Captain, Lieutenant, Sergeants and Detectives of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department - Homicide Section during their investigation. Attorneys work weekly rotations carrying the 24-hour homicide beeper and during their "beeper duty" are on call for questions from and assistance to the police department. Upon the arrest of a subject by the police, the attorney on beeper duty must evaluate the case to determine if there is sufficient evidence to warrant prosecution of the individual, and if so, for what degree of homicide. The charging attorney handles the case from arrest to trial and beyond.
