Household trash pick-up
Conducted two times per week for all residents.

Yard Waste pick-up
Conducted once a week for all residents [once a month from January through March].

Bulk pick-up
Conducted once a month on a set week for every street. Each residence can place three large (bulk) items behind their own property line. Bulk includes appliances, furniture, lumber, mattresses, bundled branches (larger than two inches in diameter), tires, waste oil, automotive batteries, and marine batteries. Look on your dumpster for the correct week for pick-up or call the Citizens' Service Bureau at (314) 622-4800.

Prohibited refuse
Any single item weighing more than fifty pounds or three feet in length, total debris of more than one cubic yard or more than three hundred and fifty pounds, or any item set along side, on top of, or which prevents the container's lid from closing. Also, prohibited are hazardous wastes including poisons, acids, flammable or explosive materials, petroleum-based products and infectious waste.

Transfer stations
Located at 4100 South First Street and 201 Humboldt Avenue are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for citizens to bring one load of refuse, bulky or yard waste one time per month. The citizen must show proof of residency and the load cannot be larger than a one-half ton pick-up truck.

Recyclables
Includes newspapers, aluminum cans, steel food cans, glass bottles, magazines, plastic bottles, and cardboard can be dropped off at the transfer stations. A list of other recycling locations is available by calling Operation Brightside at (314) 781-4556 or at the St. Louis Recycles web page.

Leaf collection
Conducted by the Street Department each month during the Fall. Citizens are asked to sweep their leaves into the curb in front of their own property just before street cleaning day each month.

Project Blitz
Sponsored by Operation Brightside, Project Blitz is a neighborhood clean-up program conducted on four consecutive weekends each Spring. Notification of the collection dates is sent to each residence by mail or you can contact Operation Brightside at (314) 781-4556.

Commercial Businesses
Commercial businesses are required to provide their own container from a private waste hauler, and therefore are prohibited from using City containers or services for disposal of any refuse generated by that business. By the same token, anyone using someone else's private container is in violation of the law.

Fees
Refuse services provided to the citizens of St. Louis without additional fees are some of the best and most extensive services in the nation.
