The City of St. Louis has historical records stored in various locations.
The Recorder of Deeds Archives Services section provides specialized services to genealogists and scholarly researchers on public records dating from 1764, our City's French colonial founding, to 1920. These records include marriage contracts, incorporations for business and non-profits, trademark registrations, public orphanage papers, campaign finance filings, and much more. Located at City Hall, Rooms 126 and 127.
The Comptroller's Office Records Retention Section administers operation of a massive microfilm/archival library. This activity includes various record storage, record retrieval, imaging documents, and copying services for city departments and the general public. Located at City Hall, Room 1.
The St. Louis Public Library History & Genealogy Department houses numerous historical documents, including old City Directories, on paper and microfilm. Located at 1301 Olive St., Main Level.
Court-related historical documents, including divorce decrees, etc. are housed at the Circuit Clerk's Office. Located at the Civil Courts Building, 10 N. Tucker Blvd., 10th Floor.
