The City of St. Louis picks up bulk and B.O.A.T. (batteries, oil, appliances, and tires) items once a month, up to three items per household. Items must be placed in the alley behind your property (or, if you use a rollout cart, at the curbline) at least three feet away from any dumpster or rollout cart.
The city is divided into four zones for bulk/B.O.A.T. trash collection, and each zone is picked up on a different week. Pickup can be anytime during the week, so items must be out by Monday morning at 6 AM to avoid being missed.
The Refuse Division has different trucks picking up different types of items. The truck that collects furniture will not take appliances, for example. Do not be alarmed if one truck comes down your alley and does not collect every item.
The route supervisor surveys alleys early Monday and determines which trucks to send down which alleys. Items not out during this survey may be missed.
If your bulk items were set out on time and did not get collected, you should call the CSB the next Monday morning to report missed items. Because by Monday afternoon trucks have moved on to the next collection area, reports of missed items received later than Monday morning cannot be collected until the following month.
The City of St. Louis no longer operates a public landfill. Instead, City residents may bring their bulky items, household trash and yard waste to either of two (2) City transfer stations which are operated under a contract with a private hauler. Citizens must provide proof of residency by displaying either a current driver’s license with a City address, or paid property tax receipt prior to being granted permission to dump. Only one pick-up truck load per month may be deposited at the transfer stations, and loads from any business or private hauler will not be accepted. The transfer stations are located at 4100 S. First Street and 201 Humboldt Avenue. Their hours are Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
